Guitar Lessons
Overview and Methodology
My teaching style is hands on and big picture- I teach how to hear and understand music with a focus on guitar. We will work on understanding the application of music theory and harmony to whatever music the student would like to learn. All of my students will work on piano, drums, and bass playing - but our focus is definitely guitar. I only take on a pool of 6-10 students at a given time, and I teach in person lessons out of my studio on Mondays. I’m currently not taking on new students (January 2026), but I do have a a waiting list. Please reach out on my contact page if you would like to be placed on my waiting list and I will notify you when a spot in my studio becomes available.
Pricing and Payment
I have an unconventional model for teaching. I don’t believe in weekly lessons for all of my students. The majority of my students are adult students or experienced guitarists. There is so much information available to students online, that I believe my role as a teacher is largely as a guide to help your process of musical discovery. I have a roster of students but I typically only teach 4 lessons a week. My model is “I’m here when you need me”. Students can sign up for a lesson when they need it- sometimes that means weekly, sometimes that means quarterly. I want you to come to a lesson when you have questions and are ready for new ideas.
I encourage my students to take 1 hour lessons as I have found this is the sweet spot where we can cover the most material and not feel rushed. My fee for an hour lesson is $75. Beginning students will typically take 30 minute lessons ($40) for the first 2 months while they learn fundamentals and develop muscle strength in their hands, but as they progress, we will transition to 1 hour lessons.
Payment is due at the end of a lesson, or if multiple lessons are taken in a month, payment is due at the end of the month.
